Every year someone dies trying to beat the train. Please stress to all your loved ones the importance of looking and listening for trains when near crossings. For a free Railroad Safety Presentation please contact Louisiana Operation Lifesaver at http://laoperationlifesaver.org Louisiana Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit, continuing public education program designed to end collisions, deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights-of-way. Operation Lifesaver’s trained and certified volunteer speakers provide free safety presentations for people of all professions and age groups to help them make safe decisions around tracks and trains. Educational brochures and videos, coloring books for children and training information are available. Louisiana Operation Lifesaver is sponsored cooperatively by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Louisiana State Police, Federal Highway Administration and all Louisiana railroads.

Like a Louisiana oil well hitting the mark, the Faubourg St. John Merchants’ Bastille Day Celebration was one huge success. The thousands of people who attended are still talking about the great time they had in Faubourg St. John.

A national survey selected 10 nominees and then online voters were asked to choose the most animated, brilliant, lively and vivacious city in the United States. The clear-cut winner proved to be the home of Mardi Gras,
Bourbon Street, and jazz fest as well as a rich volume of American history.
