Please call Jerry Williams at (504) 658-8416 with any questions regarding this meeting.

About 30 people enjoyed a meeting with Project Manager Valerie Moten (pictured above) and Jerry Williams with the Office of Recovery and Development Administration.

There might have been more people present if it weren’t for the rain and the Saints playing on Monday Night Football. Go Saints!

Bob Tannen of DNIA gave a presentation on the history of the area noting that it is the oldest area in the United States where free people of color owned land.

Several neighborhood organizations sent representatives. FSJNA Treasurer Brenda London and FSJNA Board Member Charlie London represented the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association.

While Bayou Road is not in his district, Juan Lafonta, the Louisiana District 96 Representative, is very enthusiastic about this project and pledged to do whatever he can to help this project become reality. Several important issues regarding improvements on Bayou Road were discussed. Human scale lighting, landscaping, sidewalk improvements, historic style signage, benches, and preserving the historic character of the area including reuse of existing resources were all issues discussed.
